Had you told me a year ago that I would literally be wearing a bra instead of an actual top out in public, I might have raised an eyebrow at you. (Mom, dad – feel free to close your laptops or move on to the next post.) Me? A bra in public? I would never. That’s more controversial than wearing leggings as pants.
Maybe it’s getting more comfortable with my own body, maybe it’s the triple digit temperatures, maybe it’s the comfortable fabric… But I just can’t stop wearing my sports bras and long line bralettes as tops.
I think it all started when I started going to hot yoga during busy season this year. Have you ever been to hot yoga? If not, let me assure you; the last thing you want on your body is more clothes. I got comfortable leaving the house in a sports bra and high waist leggings (with a denim jacket over the top if it wasn’t hot outside) and started wearing that every weekend.
Then, I got True and Co’s true body bra. (Ladies – if you haven’t tried it, it’s truly amazing.) I had it on with shorts while I was lounging around my apartment and ended up throwing on a denim jacket to go get something from my car. The result? A look I kind of liked. The bra is essentially long enough to count as a crop top anyway, right?
I ended up pairing it with a pair of high waist shorts and, of course, my favorite denim jacket. The rest of the look came together during one of my weird creative outfit streaks in my room, where I try on literally anything and everything that comes to mind. (It also usually results in me having to hang up all my clothes when it’s done, but you can’t interrupt the creative process!)
But you know me – once I find a trend I like, I have to try it again. One of my favorite trainers, Audrey Gloss, got me hooked on Carbon 38. (Big hit to my credit card, thank you very much.) I saw this sports bra (I actually purchased the matching set) and knew it had to happen.
Even though I can’t wear this sports bra for super high impact activities, it’s great for lifting weights and doubles as my new cutest going out top. Enough so that I got it in two colors.
It looks cute with all my high waisted shorts and skirts and is conveniently sweat-wicking for those nights out where it’s still ungodly hot outside. Is there a con to wearing a sports bra in lieu of an actual shirt? I’m not seeing one yet.
