Dress Cuter for Class: The Best Tips for College Students

I’m one of those girls that’s always dressed up. Literally always. It’s like my thing. Sometimes, people notice more than other times. But here’s the thing – I’m never uncomfortable. Sometimes people give me weird looks or tell me I’m overdressed but the secret is in looking cute while staying comfortable.

Pick comfier jeans (or cuter leggings).

Pretty much if I don’t like how a pair of jeans feels, I just won’t buy them. Point blank period. If they’re so uncomfortable that you’re never gonna wear them, then what’s the point? Let’s be honest, there are jeans out there that are just as comfy – if not more comfy – than some leggings. Instead of getting a bunch of cheap, uncomfortable jeans, opt for quality comfy jeans and wear them when you want an outfit to look a little more polished.

If you’re a leggings-gal through and through, then just replace the ratty old leggings. Get a few pairs of quality black leggings (the thick kind that hold you in in all the right places) and maybe even a few with fun detailing like moto leggings. These are perfect to pair with long tunics and booties or even a cute tee and some statement sneaks. Just opt for athleisure-kinda-looks instead of just-spent-two-hours-on-the-treadmill-in-a-ratty-tee look.

Tailored on top, cozy on the bottom (and vice versa)

If I’m going to go with a look that featured something comfy and oversized, I try to balance it off with something more polished. For example, a boxy button-up crop top can look super cute with a pair of black sweatpants and some simple black slides. Often, I opt to go for a cozy, oversized sweater with a dark pair of stretchy jeans and a pair of leather loafers. It’s practically my fall uniform.

Dresses and Spandex > Oversized Tees and Gym Shorts

Unpopular opinion? Probably. I always hated how the oversized shirts and norts looked. Now, I’ll be honest, I’ve taken part in less-than-fashionable trends (I can’t live without my Birks), but I’m convinced that a loose tee shirt dress or swing dress over spandex is just as cute as the oversized tees and gym shorts. Fight me (but you are on a fashion blog so what did ya think I was gonna say?).

Rock your glasses.

The easiest trick in the book is to avoid the makeup routine by putting on a cute, thick-rimmed pair of glasses. I love my glasses – it’s just a bonus that they help me see. A little bit of fun lip color with the glasses definitely looks cute and put-together without looking like you tried too hard.

Top Knots and Braids are your best friend.

The higher the bun, the higher the stress. At least, that’s what I used to live by. In my senior year of high school, I taught myself how to rock a top bun and a side braid and ever since, I’ve only done my hair on occassions where cameras might be present (like a photoshoot, formal event, wedding, etc.). It significantly reduced the amount of time needed for my morning routine without sacrificing my hair.

So what are your best tips for looking cute while still staying comfortable?
