Ah, the black jumpsuit. The style essential of the permanently business-casual Arizona girl. I still remember when I bought my first jumpsuit, skeptical that it would look good on me. Since then, I’ve added a least a dozen more to my closet. They are the perfect items to throw on when you “have nothing to wear” and can be easily dressed up or down.
With summer coming up quickly and my desire to stay fashionable without overheating or baring too much skin, the jumpsuit is my closet must-have.
I tend to pick solid color or simple jumpsuits that don’t overwhelm the wearer. They can also be worn with just about anything, making them so much more versatile.
For these outfits, I’m wearing my new summer staple: my new-to-me black jumpsuit. It’s originally from Loft, but I picked it up from thredUP for about 75% off the retail price! Loft is one of my favorite brands to shop at thredUP since the items are so heavily discounted and most of the time, look like brand new items! This jumpsuit even still had the remove-before-wear security tags attached, so if this was worn before, it wasn’t for very long!

If you’re going to buy secondhand, I do have a few tips:
- I pretty much always shop for brands I purchase normally. Since I’m a huge fan of Loft, I have a good idea of how their clothes will fit me. Luckily, thredUP has free returns for credit, so if something doesn’t fit, I can ship it back pretty easily. But, in general, I like to stick with brands I already know and love.
- Pay attention to the item descriptions on each item’s page. thredUP does a great job of giving you realistic expectations for what you are going to get.
- Each item is reserved for 24 hours once you put it in your shopping cart, so it’s totally ok to sleep on it if you’re unsure. They also do a great job of sending you reminders when your items are about to expire so you don’t lose them!
- Pro tip: search the items without excluding things in someone’s cart. You’ll see a lot more selection and you can elect to get notified if it leaves someone’s cart so you can snag it! I do this with the items I’ve been looking for (like the denim jacket in this post!) for a long time and I already have my heart set on it. This Madewell Jacket was totally worth it!
Ok, so maybe you’re not totally sold on thredUP or secondhand shopping yet. Did you know the clothing clothing industry is one of the most pollutive industries in the world, second only to oil? I discovered this when I watched The True Cost (on Netflix – highly recommend this documentary) and changed the way I think about clothes. My shopping habits also did a 180. This documentary is actually one of the reasons I really started to love thredUP! If you love shopping but want to reduce your environmental footprint, shopping secondhand first is a great place to start. Even if you don’t want to go vegan or vegetarian, you can take other actions, like shopping secondhand to help the environment and others!
What makes thredUP the best place to secondhand shop? One – it’s probably the easiest way I’ve found. I love online shopping for the convenience of it and this combines thrifting with a convenient online shop. Two – there’s no bargaining involved, like a lot of other resale apps, so everything is pretty fairly priced. Three – you can’t beat the platform. Their app and website are both flawless and easy to navigate no matter what you’re looking for. Four – they have sales too.
For now, I’m done talking about thredUP, although I could honestly go on for a while, so we can get to talking about these super cute looks!

Look 1:
Can you ever go wrong with a denim jacket? I love them because they aren’t too heavy and perfect for cool summer mornings and nights. As an added bonus, they add the perfect touch of laidback-cool. I paired the casual look of the denim jacket with the more sophisticated look of the quilted Rebecca Minkoff bag. The gold hardware on the bag matched the gold hardware on my new Old Navy sandals, bringing the whole look together.
This look is perfect for hitting up a bar on the weekend or out shopping with the girls. The jacket is perfect, especially when the AC is cranking indoors. The bag adds just the right touch of glam to an otherwise casual look.
This outfit is 100% thrifted, which is something I’m pretty proud of. Sandals, jacket, jumpsuit, and bag – all thrifted. The total cost of this outfit was under $100 considering a lot of these items retail for that amount alone. I easily saved 70% of retail prices with this outfit!

Look 2:
For my second look, I went with something a little more casual. I swapped the heeled sandals for flat sandals and added one of my favorite summer statement necklaces. The look ends up being a cool, relaxed look that’s easy to throw on for a day of errands or working.
I threw this on before going to a coffee shop to fuel up and work on some blog work, heading to the grocery store and post office, and then finishing the day at class and a happy hour. Talk about a versatile outfit that’s ready for anything.
To recreate it, it’s as easy as throwing on your favorite jumpsuit, a piece of statement jewelry, and some minimalist sandals!

I am absolutely loving both looks. Knowing how hot it is, I would opt out of the denim jacket most days since I’m such a sweaty betty! I love how comfy this jumpsuit looks!

Thank you! I’m usually a sweaty Betty too, but the rooms in the business school are all so air-conditioned that I can’t go in without a jacket or I freeze!
I only recently discovered Thread Up! I haven’t ordered anything from them yet though. I love the jumpsuit with the denim jacket! It looks so cute!
Thanks so much! I didn’t really start ordering from thredUP until about a year ago and I got absolutely hooked once I started learning how to look for the best finds! I’ve scored so many cute things from them – I may have to do a “best thredUP finds” vlog just to share!
