I live in a tiny apartment which means it comes with a tiny bathroom. If you follow me on Twitter or read my blog posts regularly, you probably also know that I’m not really about organization, which is a problem when you’ve got a lot of clothing and makeup. #BloggerProblems
I was getting pretty sick and tired of a dirty bathroom, especially with the dingy lighting my apartment has, so I went ahead and put together the easiest tutorial to give your bathroom an easy mega summer refresh. And I know, apartment bathrooms aren’t the best for decorating. They don’t give you a whole lot to work with. I also know that I significantly improved the look of my bathroom with these few tips and kept it under $70. So, you too can give your bathroom a mega facelift for the summer months ahead with minor effort.
Note: All of these items were purchased at my local Target.
Get better lighting.
I don’t have windows in my bathroom which is a total bummer. But, honestly, lighting is so key. Lighting is the difference between feeling good in the morning and feeling just bleh so make sure that you’re starting off your day right!
I went ahead and replaced the dull, almost dead lights in my bathroom for a lighter, brighter feel. Considering that one of my bulbs goes out all the time, this changed the entire feel in my bathroom. Almost immediately, the whole bathroom felt better. There was a still a lot of work yet to do, but this is the simplest and easiest change to make. Start small. Build up to that mega summer refresh.
Get some wall storage.
Get that clutter of yo’ counter! I promise this will make things so so much more organized. I bought a wood wall organizer from Target with three little compartments and some side hooks. I’m pretty sure it’s not meant for bathrooms, but either way, I used it in mine.
It has hooks on the side which is so handy for those necklaces that I take off before I shower and just throw on the bathroo counter. This gets them off the counter and, as a huge bonus, they are at a much lower risk of falling in the sink. Win-win. I put some of my daily use items in this wall organizer too – like moisturizer, face wash, ya know… items in the morning routine. Since I never put these items away anyway, this wall organizer gets them off my counter but still within reach on a daily basis.
Utilize your under-the-sink space.
Okay, I can’t be the only one who throws the stuff they don’t need under the sink. In fact, I often forget about all the things I have down there. I have so much space under the sink too, but it’s not really usable. That’s probably why so much stuff ends up on my counter.
Utilize that space! It’s going to waste if you’re not using all of it! Get an under-sink organizer (I’ve used different bins in the past) to create usable space in the height of your sink. If you’re only putting stuff on the bottom, you’ve got a lot of air space to use on top. By using stackable drawers, you can use way more of the space and stay way more organized doing it.
Match your bath rugs, towels, and shower curtain.
I cannot tell you how big of a difference this makes. Honestly, it’s like a $15 dollar investment and it makes everything look so much more put together. I usually use whatever I can get my hands on (just college student things, am I right), but you can easily pick up some inexpensive goods from Target.
So, I picked up some white towels, a memory foam bathmat, and a plain bathmat all to match my navy and white shower curtain. I discarded some orange and green decor that I picked up earlier in the year and my bathroom finally felt somewhat cohesive. Bonus points for it matching my current bedding set too.
Avoid that dreaded empty toilet roll moment…
Everyone has had that dreaded moment when they look over and the toilet paper roll is empty. It’s embarrassing for everyone involved, so let’s just solve that problem real quick.
I use Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong® Mega Rolls which are four rolls in one. This saves me trips to the store to get another pack because I only have one square left at the house and eliminates the need for a bunch of extra rolls! I hide two rolls in a basket on my toilet just in case, but not having to keep more back there helps eliminate that dang clutter. Plus, it just makes life easier when you don’t have to think about that dang toilet roll as often.
You can save 10% on Quilted Northern Mega Rolls using Target’s Cartwheel app between 6/20 and 7/8 so go give them a go!

Love the little shelf you put up! Also, I definitely need to remember the under the counter space. Sometimes, I totally forget about it and just look to my counter space.
I do too! I always end up just throwing things under the sink and forgetting about them! The little shelf is from target and it’s under 30! you can get it HERE!
Yessss to utilizing under sink space — I bought these cute buckets from The Container Store and it made SUCH a difference in keeping me organized
Seriously, even those little cheap buckets do wonders!
Love it! Great organization and a touch of Nautical . 🙂
Thank you! I’m a total sucker for navy – it just looks so nice in any space! Funny enough, the shower curtain was the last one left in Target when I went back-to-school shopping that I actually likd.
Love these tips I need more ways to store in my small bathroom and these are great ideas!
Thank you! My bathroom was a disaster before this post – I should have taken a before photo so everyone could see what an improvement this was! The shelf helped immensely to get everything off the counter!
Valuable info. THanks for sharing!
Cool ideas, thanks!
