Ok it’s a little late, but I guess it’s finally time to officially blog about my outfits for New York Fashion Week this year. I really backed off on the fashion week events, mainly because I wanted to take the time to be in a new city, re-evaluate where I want my blog to go, and think about how I want to be known in the community. I have a pretty solid idea and I’m loving coming more into my personal style, but it doesn’t mean we can’t always sit back and think about growth.
I’ve recently been describing my style as “somewhere between moderately alt and middle school art teacher” and I think these outfits highlight that little segment of my style very well.
For those that don’t know, my challenge with Fashion Week this year was that it was right in the middle of a two-week trip for which I refused to pack anything more than a carry-on. That meant I had to be very strategic with my outfits. I wanted some things I could wear out in the city casually while still having fashion-forward outfits that stood out when I was at events. The staples I heavily relied on for the whole trip were:
- my overalls
- my lace-up boots
- high-rise linen trousers
The linen trousers did a lot of the heavy lifting and my boots were staples all through Fashion Week and later at Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas. (Click here to see a recap of my festival outfits.) The overalls are a crucial part of my day-to-day casual look and I love them paired with a sports bra and boots or sneakers. The linen trousers were easy to pair with sports bras to wear casually, a corset top for a fancier event, or a crop top for a concert or quick day out.
The boots got a little uncomfortable by week 2 of wearing them every day. I’d probably use insoles next time for heavy use, but these boots from Christy Dawn are one of my favorite pairs. They’re nice and polished enough to wear to work and the Victorian style of the boots is unique to this pair – I don’t see a lot of lace-up boots like this!
Fashion Week Outfit 1
My personal favorite outfit was this one. I paired my favorite overalls (you’ve probably seen me in them all year) with snake print tights, my favorite lace-up boots, a thrifted leather bucket hat, and one of my all-time favorite bags.
Items I bought secondhand:
- My leather bucket hat (from thredUP)
- My red Loewe Puzzle bag (from The Real Real)
Sustainable Fashion Items:
- My Christy Dawn lace-up boots
For a last-minute Harry Styles Concert
Right before I went to New York, I bought a single ticket to see Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden. I wore this Farm Rio crop top, my favorite linen trousers, my boots and paired the look with a bunch of body glitter to get the right vibe.
Sustainable Fashion Items:
- My Christy Dawn lace-up boots
- My Farm Rio Crop Top (Check out my brand review here!)
For a girls’ wine night
My first fashion week event was an event hosted by Austen Tosone at French Cheese Board! (Check out Austen here!) I paired this slip dress with a corset for a little more waist definition and here is a look at the boots… again.
Sustainable Fashion Items:
- My Christy Dawn lace-up boots
- My Silk Laundry slip dress (check out my brand review here!)
Fashion Week Outfit 2
This look came in a close second to my overalls outfit, but this might have been the crowd favorite. The snake bodysuit is from Thistle and Spire, a women-owned and operated lingerie brand. I paired it with pasties (for obvious reasons), some thrifted heels, and the linen trousers made it a little more “conservative” since they’re loose enough to wear with a sheer bodysuit. This outfit was, no surprise, also my most controversial. The girlies loved it, but of course I had to hear it from the men who thought it was “too much.” *Cue eye roll*
Either way, I felt so hot in this top and loved sharing this look.
Thrifted Items:
- These Jeffrey Campbell Heels
Fashion Week Outfit 3
Moving into outfit 3… I actually borrowed this skirt from the wardrobe of Cait Patton (check out her blog here!). She rented it from Nuuly. I paired it with her Free People Brami and belt bag as well. The only thing in this look that are mine are the boots and the sunglasses. I only wore this outfit briefly on the balcony, but look at the shot.
For a night out
Of course, one of my New York trips wouldn’t be complete without a night out. This slip dress, thrifted from thredUp, is one of my favorite dresses. It pairs well with crop jackets, tights, boots, sandals… you name it. It’s a great closet staple for me. I let the dress do most of the work and just paired it with these thrifted statement Jeffrey Campbell heels.

Sustainable Fashion items:
- This Reformation mini slip dress (This is also thrifted! Check out my brand review here!)
Fashion Week Outfit 4
The last outfit I have to share with you is this simple look. You can see the linen trousers again, the boots again, this corset crop top, and a thrifted statement blazer.
Thrifted Items:
- This Dior blazer
So, what did you think? Do you have a favorite outfit? What would you wear to Fashion Week?
