Prep + Pastry: Morning Brunch in Tucson

Thank you Prep + Pastry for hosting Tanner and me for brunch!

I think it’s pretty apparent how much I like brunch. I mean, I really like brunch. Give me some eggs and a mimosa and my week instantly becomes better. Because brunch without booze is just a sad, late breakfast.

Now, living in Tucson has given me quite the brunch standards. Tucson has so many unique places with unique and delicious dishes that I’ve become a bit of a brunch snob. So, trust me, I don’t share any places that I don’t absolutely love.

I’ve shared several spots before, highlighting Culinary Dropout and Tallboys and a quick and dirty list of my favorite spots in Tucson. Today, I’m excited to highlight another great brunch spot on that list: Prep + Pastry!

It’s in the name: The Pastries

The first time I went here, I had a coffee and a pastry. After that, I knew I had to come back. Prep + Pastry specializes in unique pastries; the first one I had was a maple bacon cronut. And yes, it tasted just as amazing as it sounds. This time, I tried one of their donuts. It was a sugar-coated donut with a glaze and cream-filling. I’m not exactly sure what the flavors were, but yes, it was amazing too.

You can even take their pastries to-go so, if you find yourselves stuffed at the end of their meal, worry not, just take a pastry for later!

Build-Your-Own-Mimosas

Let me tell ya’, Prep + Pastry does have amazing mimosas. I can’t go without getting one. My personal favorite is the prickly pear mimosa. (Side note: their sangria is also delicious if you find you’re not a big champagne/mimosa person.)

They also have the option of a build-your-own mimosa, which Tanner and I love to induldge in. It’s the perfect thing to split between a few people, definitely not something you should try on your own – it’s a whole bottle of champagne! You get to pick three different mimosa flavors; I usually get the classic, prickly pear, and the special of the day!

A.M. Rellano

I will say that I usually get the Return of the MAC or the Sweet Potato Hash, but I wanted to venture out this time. I asked our waiter what his favorite dish was and he recommended the Rellano. Since I’m definitely a fan of Mexican food, I decided to give it a try.

It’s a deconstructed rellano, so it feels a bit more like a Mexican scramble. Still, absolutely delicious, just like everything else.

Breakfast Poutine

Tanner got the breakfast poutine. Talk about a heavy meal – it’s eggs on top of cheese, fries, and gravy! But power to him, he ate the whole thing and just needed a nice, long nap afterward.

I will say, this was so good, I ended up ordering it the next time I came in!

All-in-all, you can’t go wrong with a single thing you order here. It’s all ah-mazing. They have options for those of us looking for carbs in the morning and options for those of us trying to stay healthy. I took my parents here for graduation weekend and all of us found something we enjoy.

What I will say, the food here is so delicious, the wait time can get long! Pro tip: arrive as early as possible or put your name on the list with the Yelp app! Thank me later for getting ya’ in just a little earlier. You can also order drinks and pastries at the bar if you want to pass the time while you wait.

Too long, didn’t read? I personally recommend the Return of the Mac or Sweet Potato Hash for health nuts and vegetarians, and the Rellano and Breakfast poutine are my favorites for when I’m craving something a little heavier.

Don’t forget to take a pastry to-go!
