Queen of Downtown Tucson

This post is sponsored by USA Network but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

If you’ve been around here a while, you know that I talk about Tucson all the time. If you’re new around here well, let me introduce myself: I’m the Queen of Downtown Tucson (we’ll just throw the U of A campus in my domain too).

I started blogging here in Tucson in 2013, my freshman year of college at The University of Arizona. It all began during finals week, when I got bored of studying. In between flashcards, I tried to teach myself HTML code and write new blog posts. Maybe it wasn’t the best blog in the world, but we all have to start somewhere.

Flash forward to 2018: I have my B.S in Accounting and Entrepreneurship and my Masters Degree in Accounting. My little website has evolved into its own little business and my own little kingdom.

Sometime last year, I decided that I wanted to make Tucson my domain. I wanted to be the go-to girl for everything Tucson-related. I succeeded. Even if my throne is the best seat in my favorite local coffee shop, I’m proud of my journey and how far I’ve come.

How did I do it?

I won’t lie. I worked really, really hard. Sometimes, people just look at the end result and think that everything came easy. No one ever sees the struggle; they just see you on top.

I can’t tell you hard it was to learn to blog, to learn to create content, to earn money to invest in my business, and learn how to make money. I built my relationships with brands from the ground up; I didn’t have anyone else to help me or guide me. I fumbled my way through the first couple of years and figured out where to invest my time and resources.

After a few years in the University of Arizona’s business school, I was able to take what I had learned in my marketing and entrepreneurship classes and apply it to my budding business. I learned about building a brand, creating content that sells, and providing help to my audience. All of those skills helped create the blog and brand you see today.

It took a lot of failures. But you learn from them, pick yourself up, and keep going.

Now, of course, I’m not the only boss babe who’s kicking butt in the Tucson area. We all have our own specialties and our own journies to get to where we are. Go on, give us all a look and you’ll see we all have our own things to offer the area.

Feeling empowered yet?

Is there anything better than a TV show with a powerful woman in the leading role? I started watching Queen of the South last summer when Season 2 came out. You can see a bit more about that HERE. It focuses on Boss Babe Teresa Mendoza, portrayed by Alice Braga, who is working hard to rule her own empire. Seasons 1-2 focus on us her rise from the bottom, mirroring the same kind of upward trajectory and battles that all us Queens have to face.

After totally binging on season 2, I’m excited for Queen of the South to return for season 3. Season 3 is going to finally focus on Teresa’s reign as Queenpin, now that she has seized the throne of her own empire.

Queen of the South Season 3 premieres on Thursday, June 21st at 9/8c and will air each week on Thursday!

Hi - my name is Kirsten! I am currently based in Chicago after a long cross-country move from Arizona. What will you find here? I love sharing all things sustainability and slow fashion, any of my day-to-day shenanigans, the latest new hobbies I picked up, and whatever concert or music festival I can find. Welcome and thanks for popping in to my little corner of the world wide web!

It’s so important to have a niche! I wish I had started blogging as early as college but better late than never. I know who to come to whenever I roll through Tucson!
