I am very excited to share this new Sausage Alfredo recipe with you guys!
Me and my boyfriend both loved it, even if it wasn’t exactly low-carb, and we finished off the leftovers the very next day. The sausage has got an Andouille sausage type of flavor to it, even though we used Italian sausage, and the flavor worked perfectly with the thick Alfredo sauce, broccoli, and basil. I’m hoping to make a few cream sauces from scratch soon, but for right now, the jarred stuff is working just fine.
So, as a college student, I’m still learning about grocery shopping. I’m learning about how to only go to the grocery store once a week (if you can do this already, you’re superhuman), making the lists before I go, and managing to somehow get everything I need without walking back and forth through the store five times. I’m constantly worried that the food I’m buying is going to go bad before I can use it, especially fruits and veggies, because I’m only cooking for one or two. Leftovers are great and all, especially pasta leftovers, but how am I supposed to make the food I’m buying last? (Side note: I’m really upset about how fast bananas go brown. Banana bread it is. I got some good cupcakes coming your way soon.)
I hit up the frozen fruit and vegetable aisle quite often. I’m a big fan of smoothies in the morning to get few of those nutritional servings in and they never go bad!
I was excited to find Dorot cubes in the freezer section, which is basically frozen herbs! Basil is a hard herb to store since it goes bad so quickly, so this Dorot chopped basil has become a staple in my freezer (although I do like the fresh stuff every once in a while). You can even try it with this coupon that basically comes pre-clipped for you. Think of me as your new personal coupon clipper!
(Side note: A Dorot basil cube is equivalent to approximately one teaspoon. You may substitute the basil for pesto or fresh basil if you wish, but it will not affect the recipe drastically.)
The recipe is below, but all you have to do is steam some broccoli, brown some sausage, sauté some onions and mix it all in the alfredo sauce with basil for a little extra flavor!

- In the leftover sausage grease, sauté the diced onions.
- Heat the alfredo sauce in a sauce pan. When warm, add the sausage, onions, and broccoli. Stir well and gradually add the Dorot Basil Squares as desired.
- Cook until everything is well incorporated and serve over pasta.
This is a great recipe! I’ve used those basil cubes before and they’re so fun!

I love adding any meat to pasta! This looks great with the sausage!!
I loved it! I usually do chicken or shrimp with alfredo, but it was so tasty with the sausage!
This sounds absolutely great, and it probably doesn’t help that I’m pretty hungry right now, too. This is such a simple recipe but it looks SO good. I think I’m going to try it out later this week, so thanks for sharing!

Girl…this looks awesome!!! Not only do I have a new recipe, but you’ve totally introduced me to the Dorot trays. I’ve never seen these before, but I didn’t know I should be looking for them. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Thank you! I am new to the trays too, but they’re really nice while I’m in college and don’t cook for every meal. I don’t want anything to go bad!
That looks so good! I actually just bought some fresh basil from the Farmer’s market but it is already going bad! I never thought to buy frozen herbs. Chop up some potatoes and stir fry the basil in–So good!
