San Diego

My boyfriend is possibly the second best guy in the world (after my dad) and he makes that clear to me every day. For Valentine’s Day, he surprised me with a trip to San Diego and, despite the gloomy weather, we had a great time.

I am, first, a huge advocate of AirBnB. I know there have been some less than positive news about them, but I must say, I’ve never had an issue and always enjoyed my stay. For those of us traveling on a budget, it’s one of the best apps I have to date. If you’re looking to give it a try, use my link to enjoy a $40 coupon for your first trip!

Anyway, we stayed in a cozy one bedroom, which we had all to ourselves. It was much homier than a hotel and in a great location; it was just a short drive or twenty minutes walk from Ocean Beach. If you want to see where we stayed, I’m linking the AirBnB for your reference HERE. It was such a beautiful place to stay! (And it came with a parking spot!)

Day 1 – Ocean Beach

Saturday was the gloomiest day of the weekend. Luckily, it didn’t rain, but it was a bit chilly. I was fighting off a cold, so we stopped by a local coffee shop to grab some tea. Note to self: sleep well and drink enough water. Avoid the cold like the plague, because it lingers and never seems to really go away.

We spend the day at Ocean Beach, walking around and sitting by the water. We got breakfast and lunch here, enjoying the local places and breweries to stay inside. OB Brewery was by far my favorite and I totally indulged in the Poutine fries and the pita tacos. Highly recommend.

For dinner, Tanner made reservations downtown at a nice Italian place and I was so bummed I almost made Tanner go back when I realized we left the leftovers at the AirBnB.

Day 2 – Old Town

On our second day here, we went to Old Town San Diego. We stopped first at the Old Town San Diego Cafe (best tortillas around and really strong margs) and then made our visit to the Whaley House, one of the most haunted houses in America. Alas, I didn’t find any ghosts or discover any ghosts in my photos, but it was a neat house to visit.

Hi - my name is Kirsten! I am currently based in Chicago after a long cross-country move from Arizona. What will you find here? I love sharing all things sustainability and slow fashion, any of my day-to-day shenanigans, the latest new hobbies I picked up, and whatever concert or music festival I can find. Welcome and thanks for popping in to my little corner of the world wide web!

What an awesome V-Day surprise! San Diego is such a cool spot- so many things to see, do and eat!

One recommendation- I’d love to see a note on where some of these pics were taken or what they are of, especially the food and I think that might be the Whaley House?
