Last year, I wanted to make it a focus to share more iPhone photos with you. I think there was a mutual agreement between myself and you all; you wanted to see more moments that felt real, not curated and taken on a professional camera. So, I worked to incorporate more of those into my posting routine. The results made me happy that I took on this little challenge.
After sharing some of my photos, I got a few requests on how to take better photos on a phone camera, so I hope these tips make your Instagram game just a little better.
Focus on the Lighting:
Lighting is key if you want a sharp photo. Unfortunately, iPhone photos just don’t come out well if they are taken in poor lighting. For the best results, a lot of sun can be good, even in the shade. If you can find a place with good natural lighting, even better.
Try out a different app:
The real secrets to my best iPhone photos is the Lightroom app. Even though I use my own presets in there and that creates the most effects, the camera in the app makes a huge difference.
Another blogger shared this tip with me a while ago. When taken in the Lightroom app, the photos created are essentially the phone version of a RAW file. These photos have much more data associated with them and therefore edit more clearly and with better colors.
Get close:
While I’m a huge fan of the full body outfit shot, an iPhone allows you to catch different angles and shots you wouldn’t normally catch on a full body DSLR camera. Get up close and personal with your phone for good results.
Edit Lightly:
Lastly, and arguably the most important, don’t overedit! Regular Lightroom presets may appear too harsh on a phone photo, so try desaturing and lessening the effects of a preset so it doesn’t appear overedited.
I know these tips aren’t too much, but I hope they give you just enough information and the right inspiration to start killing the IG game on your own!
