It’s not often I walk by something in a store and think “I need to try that on.” But when I saw this knit skirt on the mannequin, I did just that. Speaking of which, I made a pact with myself not to buy anything new until I’m done catching up with my blog photoshoots, but that’s a story for another time.
Up until lately, I haven’t been a fan of midi skirts. I just don’t find them flattering on me. But one thing is for sure – lately, I’ve been hooked, and this midi sweater skirt is no exception.
It comes in lots of colors, from red to tan to gray to black, and each one could easily be a staple. To start, I purchased black, because you can’t go wrong with a slimming black skirt. If I had to choose another color, the red and the hot pink are calling my name.
So far, I’ve styled this skirt with a black crop top and naked sandals, a button down and red heels, and a printed top with black booties. I prefer wearing midi skirts with a bit of a heel to make my calves look a bit longer. I find that my legs can look stockier without them.

For this fall look, I paired the sweater skirt with a denim jacket, silk cami, a calf-hair belt, and smooth leather mules to mix a few different textures. As much as I love the skirt, the belt might be my favorite detail.
It’s a great look for the day, but to transition it to night, I would take off the jacket and swap the block heel mules for a thin-strap pair of heels. If I swapped my distressed denim jacket for a more polished denim jacket, it would also probably work for Casual Friday at work.
What do you think? How would you style this skirt? Would you pick a different color?
