There has been one trend that I have been here for since it started: high waist shorts. If they have a tie-waist, even better. do they come in fun colors? Seriously, add to cart.
I first hopped on this trend when I bought my first pair of high-rise, tie waist shorts from Maude last summer. Last summer, I styled them here. While I’m still wearing these shorts (just check out outfit #2), they are no longer the only item I own in this style.
Colored Shorts
When my mom was going through old gift cards, she stumbled upon an old Ann Taylor merchandise card for about $25. This induced a work clothes shopping spree, but that’s a story for another time.
The card could only be redeemed in stores (get with the times, Ann) so I hopped in my car and drove up to our local mall to see what I could find. Much to my delight, they had a 40% off sale-sale going on. Count me in.
I love finding good deals. Bargain bins and sale racks are my jam. So of course, I headed straight for the sale and final sale racks. When these cute colored shorts were the last pair in my size, well, it felt like fate. I tried them on, they fit, and I purchased them for under $15. Thank goodness for those sales-on-sale.
They aren’t the easiest pair of shorts to wear, since they are a fun color, so they have to be paired with a neutral. Given how hot it is here, I opted for a loose, lightweight button down. I finished the look off with my favorite pair of black slides and my new Vera Bradley Crossbody.
The only bummer is that I can’t really link to the shorts, because they are no longer available online. I’ll share the other items, but for now, keep your eye on those sale racks or check out my other picks.
Neutral Look
These shorts were the first pair of tie-waist shorts I purchased. They still remain one of my favorite pairs of shorts. These are easier to pull off; I’ve worn them with graphic tees, regular tees, tank tops, blouses and more. Since they’re a neutral, they’re pretty easy to wear.
For this outfit, I was going for neutrals, so I paired them with my favorite black bodysuit and a pair of Kendra Scott earrings from their summer collection. As you can see, my favorite sandals are making another appearance too.
I was super slow to get into anything high waisted, but I love the style now. Mostly because I’m barely 5’5” and I feel like it stretches me 😝 These shorts are so cute, you look beautiful!
Thank you and I was too! Honestly – I thought the trend was too mom-ish for me when I was younger so of course, I HAD to wear low rise. Now that I’ve started wearing high-rise though, I don’t think I can go back!
All these outfits are so cute! And you look amazing!!
Thank you so much Andrea!
Cute shorts! I am all for this trend!

Me too! I’ll pretty much wear anything high rise and tie waist now! I’ve got pants, shorts, skirt, everything in this trend!
I desperately need to get a pair of shorts like these (1) because I only have denim shorts and (2) I don’t think I can wear denim cut-offs to work but I also don’t want to ROAST in the summer heat. Loooove both of these looks, but those rusty orange ones are AMAAAAZING. Super cute! 🙂
Thank you! The orange ones were a must-have for me, especially when I saw the price! I know they’re sold out online, but your local Ann Taylor might have them on the clearance rack!
I’m usually always wearing athletic shorts or jean shorts, but I might have to add a cute pair of tie waist shorts to my shopping cart! I love how you styled them. So cute and effortlessy chic!
Yes – they are so easy to wear! And if you’re a shorts and a tee shirt kinda gal, they elevate your outfit so easily!
