I was so excited when the World Margarita Championship in Tucson chose me to be one of the few to attend the event as Media Coverage. I spent a whole 24 hours picking out my outfit for the event, drinking a lot of water, and trying to figure out how to work a rented DSLR camera. In the end, I gave up and mostly just used my iPhone (putting a nicer camera on my Christmas list now. It’s been a long time coming).
So what is the World Margarita Championship? Great question, because I didn’t know this existed either. It’s basically a bunch of restaurants in Tucson coming together and competing for the best margarita. Would I call it a world championship? Nah, but I’m definitely not complaining that this event takes place here in my college town.
They brought in a live band to play during the event as all the attendees tried each margarita sample and any of the food the restaurants had paired with it.
I’ll be honest with you; I used to think that I loved any and all margaritas but I was definitely proven wrong. I found some that I really liked and some that I would definitely not try again. Oh well.
My absolute favorite margarita was a Prickly Pear Margarita, a Tucson specialty. Tucson is well-known for using Prickly Pear in food and drink – just look at the featured food from the Chile Festival to see another! There were a few close seconds, like an Oink-a-rita (served with BACON) and a Watermelon and Cucumber Margarita. The tacos were definitely the best way to finish off the night. Shout-out to all the amazing vendors and even the chef who smiled for my photo!
All-in-all, it was a great event and I can’t wait for next year!
The food looks yummy! How much does it cost to rent a DSLR? I have one but always think about renting lenses.

We can actually rent them at our school for free from the library or the computer labs! I’m unsure of where to go to rent one. The one I rented definitely was old and was difficult to use (and I have used my fair share of cameras in the past).
This event sounds like it would be right up my ally, there is nothing that I love more than margs and mexican food!

Sounds like a fun event! Bummer the rented camera didn’t work out, but you did great capturing everything on your iPhone!
I am so jealous you got to attend the event! I throw cinci de mayo parties every year (my bday is May 6) so I love margs and tacos!
This is a THING?! This is like my dream come true!!
This seems like the best event ever!
